Blow by Blow
11x11” Inkjet and acrylic gouache on rag
This little pop art drawing was an homage to the comic book and action figures of my youth; an attempt to capture the sugary mayhem, violence, and hyper masculinity I was raised on. It was intended for display some time ago but I managed to damage the frame twice and it never made it to a public showing. I eventually replaced the glass with more durable acrylic but as fate would have it, a freak accident in the studio sent the drawing tumbling to the ground and created a solid crack right above the central figure’s raised fist. At this point, the shatter effect has become a feature of the art and in the spirit of Duchamp’s “Large Glass” it somehow became a finished work only when damaged and thus is presented here exactly as fate intended it to be.
